How did your flock annoy you today?

Pics
I opened my coop today, let everyone out, waited a while and went to check eggs. Only 5 in the nest boxes so I go check the coop because some pullets just drop it wherever. Found Speckles dead. She managed to snap her neck and hang herself on a roosting branch. Considering the scene I have concluded it happened last night at roosting time. And it was quick and quiet because I was outside at that time. Seriously and I thought quail were stupid.
Oh, I am so sorry!

How old are they?
21 weeks. 22 weeks on Monday and Wednesday. I need to chill out.

My goal for the next few weeks is to not check vents and not even really check for eggs. I do think I’m going to buy some more ceramic eggs though. I have 3 boxes and 1 egg each only in two.

That's awful, I'm so sorry.

Lord help the Memoji is obnoxiously large. I really did try to scale it down. 🤣

I finished part of the mowing, put the mower away, and the birds just stood silent, staring at the sky. Finally got all of them in their coops, the little cockerel in the rafters (I'm training them to rafter roost) and it started to rain. I mean really rain, not a little shower. I am immediately drenched.

I went to close up the last coop, 3 girls missing. Rain pounding on the metal roof, the little boy panics and heads for his old coop. Get him rounded up and back in his old coop and go looking for the girls.

I'm thinking dogs, because of the neighbors puppies, but I find them at the back of the coop, huddled in the only shelter they can find, a thick comfrey bush. Of course the rain is coming from that direction and of course they think it's a fine time for a footrace.

Capture them one at a time. Carry them back to their coop.

With everyone accounted for, time to drip, strip, and warm up.

I told one of the drenched hens that she's more trouble than she's worth.

Pretty sure she thinks the same of me, judging by the look she gave me.

Simone my Salmon Faverolle pecked me so hard that it really qualifies as a bite. She had leg meat and everything in her beak. I felt it for a while afterwards. I want to fight her. I will probably lose. Those talons are pretty hard to defend against. My melanin just started coming back from me not knowing when to put Nubia down. I know better now and I release her expeditiously. 🤣🤣🤣 IMG_1972.jpeg Here’s a picture of that gorgeous heifer Simone. I really do want to fight her. 🤣

She is very pretty, though!
