Hello everyone. I’m pretty sure my hen here has bumble foot. She has had it for quite a while now but I noticed today that it’s quite swollen and a mess, but it doesn’t effect her as she can still walk and participates in day to day things like the rest of the flock. Just wondering if anyone knows how to cure this or help it go back to normal.

Oh goodness, poor girl! That looks like scaly leg mites, not bumblefoot. Do you have pictures of her foot pads, or bottoms of her feet?

that looks like scaly leg mites rather than bumblefoot. i would treat by soaking the feet regularly in warm water and then drying them with a towel and applying petroleum jelly. deep cleaning the coop is a good idea as well.

how have you been treating her for it so far?

Wow I was so confinced that it was bumble foot! Just shows you what you can learn on here! I just deep cleaned all of their coop on the weekend… I will try soaking her feet whenever I can. I haven’t paid much attention to her feet lately because I didn’t think much of it as she was still walking fine and as I said, still acting like a normal hen because it didn’t seem to bother her. Thank you for the advice

Hi. Thank you for letting me know it was scaly leg mites… I was convinced it was bumble foot because I have never heard of scaly leg mites  But I guess not! I will try get pictures tomorrow because she is roosting just now and I don’t want to disturb her sleep.
