Hi. I just bought 250 mg niacin capsules to give to my ducklings and ducks. I want to put it in their water. I'm trying to dissolve the whole capsule into a cup and then take half a cup of the niacin water and put it in a gallon of water. The niacin is Finest Nutrition brand and it looks like very small white balls. Thanks.

I've already tried stirring them in cool water. After that didn't work at all, I tried hot water. It will NOT dissolve!

Could I add the niacin into their food instead, since it won't dissolve? If so, how much?

Niacin is water soluble. Yours have a coating of additional ingredients:

Gelatin , Sucrose , Cornstarch , Food glaze and Magnesium Silicate.

Magnesium silicate (synthetic) is manufactured by the precipitation reaction between sodium silicate and a soluble magnesium salt.
Pharmaceutical glaze is an alcohol based solution of various types of food grade shellac. aka confectioners glaze and food glaze.

Depending on how much you already know about ducks and their response to these compounds you may want to choose to go with another brand. If not, you could crush the capsules into a Tbsp of water and stir till dissolved. Then add the 1/2 c. water, let it settle and skim the floating matter off the surface.

And how much do I add to their food? How many capsules (250 mg) to a few cups of feed? Also, should I get this for them? It has niacin and other nutrients in it: http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/nutri-drench-poultry-nutri-drench-4-oz
I like Nutri Drench I use it on my ducklings and chicks for their first 2 weeks then weekly after, have you tried putting the niacin in a baggie and using a hammer on it? the recommended dose is 100- 150 megs to 1 gal of water. so 250 would be for 2 gal.

I think I'll just use the Nutri-Drench then. It seems a lot easier and provides other necessary vitamins. Thanks!

I got the Nutri-Drench today and put it in the ducklings' water. I'm going to put it in the grown ducks' water in an hour or so. I'm going to try and give it to them all weekly. I also gave a bit of it to the chicks.
