How do I find local freshly hatched chicks?

CL has a number of places to start if you are willing to do some legwork.

For example, this place (no personal experience with any of these) advertises there and may have newly hatched chicks or chicks (they breed LF Cochins, Splash Marans and olice eggers) of the right age from a hatchery:

This place advertises on CL:

You might want to contact these people since they have been advertising chicks periodically to see if they will have some hatching near the date you need:

The Saratoga Ace Hardware usually carries chicks in the spring as does Sam's Downtown pet and feed in San Jose.

If you are willing to drive to Sebastopol there is Alchemist Farms:

Rats, I just read through the original post and your location is there, near Palo Alto yes? Papas Poultry is up near the Oregon border and he sells chicks.
Thanks, but I'm about 6 hours south of the Oregon border :-\ ...kinda far to drive for even the cutest of chicks. ;-) I'm still pretty green on this site...trying to navigate my way around here...still haven't figured out how to put my location on my profile! I'm sure I'll get it eventually...maybe I'll have to get my daughter to help me! LOL!

Hi All,

I've got a broody sitting on a clutch of eggs due April 21ish...and I'd like to add a new variety or two to my flock, but I need them to be very young so I have a better chance of her "adopting" them. Is there a good way to find people with day old chicks for sale? Do folks ever tend to have extras? I'd like to be able to drive and pick them up as opposed to shipping them. Anyone here within an hour's drive of Palo Alto, CA, with chicks due around then that might be able to sell me a few chicks? I'm specifically looking for dark brown eggs and white eggs, as I have light brown and green already. ...hoping to make the egg basket more colorful. :) I've tried searching the web and not having much luck, but then I thought why not come to the experts! ;-) thanks in advance or any leads/tips/chicks!

Try Facebook if you have one. My wife subscribed to a regional poultry page.

To add your location on your profile:
1. Click on your Account button (top right of the screen)
2. That will show you a list of options. Click on Personal Details
3. About 1/2 down on that screen, you'll see a blank field titled Location
4. Fill that blank field in (for example, I've typed in my state name)
5. Down at the bottom of that screen, click on Save Changes

That's all there is to it!

There's a lot more info on how the system works under FAQ at the bottom left of the screen:FAQ's

Hope that helps!
