How do I keep my rooster from crowing?

You can tell them that your girls won't lay without the rooster and see if they buy that--surprisingly a lot of people think that--otherwise there isn't much you can do any more than you can stop birds from singing. Both actions are proclaiming their territory.

I also received 21 pullets in the mail this spring that are now about 3 months old, but I think it's going to turn out to be 20 pullets and 1 roo. The largest one (always has been) starts making a different sound than all the other hens every morning. He/she is really not crowing but making a "KAW-KAWWWWW" sound every morning and usually before they turn in for the evening. I do have a friend that loves NN's so if he/she keeps this up he will probably be moving

So I made Mrs Fluffy a nice little cage using two crates and put him in the garage...he sure did not like it (i am sure he misses his girls...will see how he does. Will report back.

How can you stop the sun from shining?

He will crow when he sees sunlight coming! Just a fact of life. If you can keep him in the dark maybe you can postpone when he starts.

There is no way to stop him from crowing. He is a rooster that is what he does.

So the crating worked the first night...second morning he crowed a little...will look for somekind of blackout tarp next. Thanks for all your input...!

I'm not sure how to stop a rooster from crowing or even if it's possible, I am new to chickens. I as well have a Fluffy (profile pic) that I am a bit nervous may turn into a rooster. Did you name yours Fluffy because he was slow to loose his baby fluff.
