How do I rescue chickens from slaughterhouses and factories?

This sounds a bit like you are throwing shade on the people who have rescued animals & are trying to feed their kids heathy food & accusing them of not doing enough.

The problems this world faces are vast & epic. Please don’t throw stones at people for only doing what they can. At least they’ve done something, unlike others who consume & consume & give nothing back.

Does anybody remember the story about the starfish?

Thanks for sharing that story :)

Hi everyone!

I am new to this forum but not new to owning chickens. I have 14 sweet chickens that run around my yard and they are the cutest. I have become very passionate about rescuing chickens from the horrible slaughterhouses and meat/egg factories. I think that rescuing those chickens are more important than buying baby chicks from hatcheries. I'm still researching ways to rescue chickens from these places, therefore if you have any advice, please let me know! It will be greatly appreciated! Also, if you know anyone/anywhere that is looking to re-home any livestock animals, please let me know!

Though I think it is very kind of you to want to rescue these birds, the truth is that you would probably end up doing more harm than good. The meat birds would suffer because they are not bred to live. They simply wouldn't have any quality of life. The egg layers would have nice lives, but you would have to pay for them, which ultimately would support the factories.
If you want to help these birds, don't buy anymore chicken or eggs. There really is not much more you can do.
You have to remember that, though the animals are suffering, and I hate that, if it weren't for these big factories being able to produce meat and eggs cheaply, a lot of people would not be able to eat, and they would suffer too. It is a vicious cycle that we really can't stop. It's sad, but that's the truth.
If you really want to rescue chickens, you can look for shelters that have chickens. Maybe you could go to sanctuaries and adopt from there. What would be really great, is if you set up a big coop just for roosters. There are so many roosters that get culled because people can't keep them. You could give those unwanted roosters a good home.

One thing I found out only recently the chickens sold in many shops have been pumped up with soya to fatten them up. Many people are allergic to gluten which is in soya other people have gained excessive weight which is a double health hazard.

What I've been told: Battery hens are cleaned out of the house once a year. They don't get to a first molt. When they are removed, many are left behind simply due to the large numbers of hens in these houses. If there are 10,000 hens there could be hundreds left behind. Workers grab them up and sell them. This is illegal in Florida (so I was told) because it spreads disease. Not sure what state you are in. I purchased three leghorns unknowingly a few years ago. They were sick. This is how I learned what I'm sharing. I got them better. They were scared of everything, that never changed. So if you want to rescue the hens in battery egg houses, learn where they are located and their schedule and simply ask if you can go pick some up at the end of the term. There will be many, many of them. Unless you are independently wealthy, it will be a difficult path in life. Rescue is largely thankless hard work. Ask me how I know. For the animals however, even for one animal, it is all worth it.

You can do that and feel good about it, there is actually a pretty good market for people with the means, but many people in developing countries don't have that luxury
Many people in developing countries don't eat meat from factory farming. They often don’t have these kind of horrible meat factories. And even if it is cheap for you, its to expensive to import it for the poor people in poor countries. They just don’t eat meat so often. And they raise chickens locally in small settings. For lots of people around the world, meat is a luxury product.
