I hear that there are lots of 'sensitive' folk out there.

Cain't say for New Mexicans, but most "Murkens don't have a problem with the word. I think a lot of Californians would be plum tongue-tied if you took "dude" out of their vocabulary.

The word/werd "dude" or "dood" is the best word to use in any sentence for any reason!
example:

SGT White: Dude Pvt Padilla is what we call a "self hating mexican."
Pvt Stevo: Dood, i know! SPC Mac asked him if he made good mexican food and he punched him in the FACE! Then called him a racist!

Surfer guy(in surfer/stoner tone): Doooood! Those waves look killer!

The werd dood is used twice to show the simular meanings of the use of the word in each phrase.
