Hi there,
while clipping the nails of my friends Sultan, I noticed that she has very raised leg scales, leg mites!
we bought some Permethrin dust, I'm going to clean her coop out and apply as directed but can I use the dust for the infestation in her legs somehow? the feed store had nu-stock, but in wasn't able to convince my friend that it was worth $25.
Is there something better I should use on feather footed chickens? I'm going to treat all her chickens just to be sure.

thank you!

The permethrin dust won't be effective because it's hard to get the dust well up under the scales where the mites live and lay eggs. If you had liquid permethrin, you could mix up a dip for the legs and feet. After that, it would be best to apply a thick oil such as castor oil or Vaseline to finish smothering the mites. A week to ten days later, you need to repeat the treatment.

You can effectively treat the mites with just the oil or Vaseline alone.

Thank you. :]
Could I mix a tiny bit of the permethin in the vaseline?
The feed store didn't carry liquid permethin, unfortunately.
Anyway, I'll grab some vaseline next time I'm in town.
Should I do anything about the feet feathers? or just grease them up as well?
