140 F = 60 CTechnically heat, steam or radiant, must develop and maintain a 140 degree constant temperature for eight hours to kill mites, residual or remnant fauna on or in structures.
Personally I can get any place heated to 140 plus degrees yet keeping all the crevices and voids to temperature isn’t possible with usual methods. Tarping the structure then laying in sand on all ground contact lines of the tarps gives the most eradication potential. To attempt this,( heat process) for self pride of not using fumigants, won’t work as needed because of a learning curve of success never happens the first time. Cost of heat equipment rental which is safe enough for bug control but not so hot to burn down the structure and to pull this off successfully is the equivalent of being a blind bus driver.
Washing laundry at 60 C kills all mite
From a trustworthy Dutch newspaper (Trouw in NL Article link) : Korean research has shown that only 6 percent die at 30 to 40 degrees C, but all mites at 60 degrees C .
I also found info that about 95% of the mites get killed if you use a dryer on max temp to tumble for 1 h.
I know people had good results with steaming a coop. Second time after 7 -10 days and ‘painting’ the inside with grease after it dried.
