How do things work?

1. I have followed a couple of members but do not receive any notifications of posts they make. Is this normal?
2. When I make a post sometimes I get notifications of additional posts, likes, etc SOMETIMES but not all. Is this normal?
3. I have changed preferences so that "Show Online Status" is off but I still appear in the right side list. What am I doing wrong?

This is normal. Mine is off too and only I can see the green tab.

@casportpony I had not checked news feed but just did. I only see some posts for one of the two persons I follow?

Whether or not their posts show up in the news feed depends on what their privacy settings are set to I think.
