How do you guys feel about the booster seat laws being put in place?

Quoting Babylady4:
I never said anything about people not having children, you are putting words in my mouth

You said originally -
"To those of you who do not want to go out and get a different car due to booster laws? That is just selfish, you knew of these laws when you had kids and to risk their lives just because you don't want to get a different car just blows my mind. You can always replace a car, you can't replace your child.

In which I replied -
My point was if I had more than 3 children - as one poster mentioned - I would not be able to comply with the NEW law(if my children were still that age) because my car is not large enough to carry that many car seats legally. AGAIN, I was merely pointing out that not all of us who have children can easily and readily change our lives for these new laws. Further, since you said people should have thought about the laws BEFORE they had children, I was merely pointing out that I had children (as most on here do) BEFORE the laws were enacted or changed.

I am sorry I did miss quote you when. You're direct quote was " you knew of the laws when you had kids" as opposed to my interpretation being " you shouldn't have had kids if you couldn't comply with the law, since you knew what the law was before hand." Either way the point I was making remains, these are NEW laws and the children where here before the law was CHANGED. Therefore, it can become a financial hardship on some parents to have to change their lives to be in compliance.

I never said you were a recipient of welfare, I apologize for any misunderstanding. I was just rambling the various programs off the top of my head and I should have worded that statement differently.
Understood and accepted.

Just a quick question; why did you decide to post about what I said, when others have made similar statements without repercussions?

I am not sure why you feel you are having any sort of "repercussions" because I responded to what you said originally and in response to me specifically. I felt we were merely having a debate of ideas and opinions. I was not the only person who quoted your original statement and commented on it. Further, you replied to my reply. I was continuing the conversation.

So what's the problem? He's doing his job. Part of my job description is to enforce laws. Therefore, I stop cars and issue summonses. We, the police, didn't create the laws and statutes. We just do our jobs and enforce those laws and statutes. "I pay your salary." I've heard that once or twice. "You sure do, and I'm making sure I earn that salary by issuing you this summons. Have a nice day."

Amen. Again, cops don't make the laws, they just enforce them. They'll ticket you without a seatbelt and they'll also scrape you (or your child) off the pavement if you ignore the law and have a terrible accident.
If you want to ignore the law then fine, do it. But please have lots and lots of medical insurance so I don't have to pay for your defiance; be it in higher medical costs or in the nightmares my DH has after he's had to deliver the bad news to the loved ones of a "rebel".

That's got to be really hard as a cop. Seeing the results of a bad accident or having a child die in your arms. I believe some cops when they say they are only interested in our safety. I couldn't do it.
