How do you handle unwanted evangelists who knock at your door?

One time I was on the job, tuck pointing on a stone foundation. It was pretty obvious that the old school house I was working on was not lived in. A JW (man) started following me around the building in the tall grass being very persistant. I kept telling him I wasn't interested... but he persisted (I was also just plain uncomfortable being a young girl alone with this dude following me around).. I finally got ticked and said, I'M GETTING PAID TO WORK AND YOU ARE INTERFERING WITH MY JOB, YOU HAVE TO LEAVE. He finally did. The farmer was already on his way and stopped to make sure I was ok.

At home, we have a very long private drive with a gate and signs. No one, has the right to open my gate and enter my property if they are unauthorized to do so. I do not like solicitors of ANY kind, phone or door. If I want something, I'll ask for it or go get it.

Most of the time it's ladies in their huge air conditioned buicks, so they're not suffering the weather by any means. If my DH answers the door he raises his hand and says "STOP", points up the drive way and says "GO"! I try not to answer it at all cause I'm usually not as nice as my DH.

But what happens if the person not interested becomes interested? Happens ALL the time...also if the uninterested person moves the next might be interested....that's why...not to aggravate

Here they come back time and time again, hoping to get a "normal" person who doesn't answer the door with the dogs from hell in the background.

Which is why DH tells me to answer the door.

I don't much mind, it's not like they stay to speak to me anyway, so I don't even know what church they are from.

Usually I am the one who handles the religious people who show up. My mother being mostly native remembers the indian schools where native children were forcibly taken from their homes and put in christian schools and punished for speaking their native language and practicing their tribal religion so she can get hostile. My step father is Wiccan and a former career military and veteran and he has no patience for people like that.

So there is me, the person who usually likes religious discussions.

One day they showed up and i was sitting outside. I was recovering form a hospital stay due to a black widow bite. I was still suffering a lot of pain and was in no mood to deal with anyone. when they walked up I informed them i was recovering from a black widow bite and wasn't up for a discussion today and the first thing out of the woman's mouth was " do you believe in a one world religion and government? it will be glorious"

well that just creeped me out and I sighed and said " give me a moment." i headed to the door. my step father , who was feeling protective of me, stepped out. he told me to go inside and rest and proceeded to say very politely "I do not believe in mythology and false religions, go away or I'll teach you about the one true religion, Wicca"

he walked in and grinned when he saw the look on my face since he doesn't believe in a "one true religion" and is much like me, that different paths are right for different people.

One of many reasons why I don't believe, and am totally disgusted by people forcing religion upon other people. What was done to the Native Americans, in the name of god, was horrible!

If I'm inside, I just don't answer the door. But we installed an electric gate at the bottom of our driveway, so now nobody gets in that we don't want in. I kid you not, the day after we installed the gate, the normal group that came by every couple of months (the same women have been coming to our house for years) tried to pull into the driveway and had to goaway since they couldn't get in. I saw them and laughed and laughed.

absolutely. I have been intimately involved with both, read literature, and at least some of the thousands of different bibles out there.

Give me a wiccan any day.

See here's the thing. If I want to know about your church, or your religion, I will make the effort myself to visit your church, or go find someone to talk to. Coming to my home uninvited for this purpose is rude beyond belief. I spent many years trying to be nice. Now I'm not so much. Basically I'll walk to the door with a beer, and tell them I'm busy smoking crack and watching gay porn, but if they'd like to come and join me they must leave their pants at the door.

You should read a little bit about paganism. The stuff you learned in church is way off base. The Gods and Goddesses in Paganism are representative. Each represents a facet of life and nature. The reason why I have an easier time believing paganism than other beliefs is because they actually believe in something that is there.

Real witches are nothing like all the stupid stuff you see from Hollywood or what the Puritans thought. I don't think Harry Potter figures in there either.

You know we have a pentagram on our front door. Maybe that's why we don't get any visitors anymore.
