How do you handle unwanted evangelists who knock at your door?

You should read a little bit about paganism. The stuff you learned in church is way off base. The Gods and Goddesses in Paganism are representative. Each represents a facet of life and nature. The reason why I have an easier time believing paganism than other beliefs is because they actually believe in something that is there.

Real witches are nothing like all the stupid stuff you see from Hollywood or what the Puritans thought. I don't think Harry Potter figures in there either.

You know we have a pentagram on our front door. Maybe that's why we don't get any visitors anymore.

I have study several religions. I have a degree in theology. The most proven factual book is the Bible. Its not base off one mans opinion or so called findings. If you truly study it you can't deny the truth that it has. Don't let any man tell you what to believe look for yourself.

how do you know it's factual? cause the bible says it is? because you believe it? i bet your degree in theology is christian based.

i have studied religions too and came to the conclusion that christianity is not for me. so your "studying" doesn't mean anything more than that we reached separate conclusions to a very fluid and personal subject that is very open to interpretation.

PS: I doubt you have studied all religions, at least not in depth, since that would be a lifetime worth of work. I haven't studied all religions in depth. also since you say someone is not christian because they haven't studied the bible enough, then you're not Buddhist because you haven't studied Buddhism enough. Or Wiccan I doubt you know about the Wiccan rheed, or the many branches of Wicca, witch craft, druids and pagans in general.

Debate them. Especially if it's Jehovah's Witnesses, people generally skedaddle if you start arguing your position. (Personal experience speaking.)

Another option is to greet everyone with a gun. Or, as others have suggested, place something outside your door that makes your beliefs very clear.

That said, the nice guy approach works fine for getting rid of door-knockers temporarily. The above are designed to scare them off for good. Personally, I've never understood passing out tracts or door-to-door evangelism. It seems to irritate more people than it converts.

very true. some people do not seem to understand that if you beat someone over the head with your beliefs all it will do is push them away further.

I attend churches on occasion of friends and only the ones who do a lot of good work around the town, and will not try and push me when I attend. I respect Christianity even if I do not follow it.

Well if you have studied as you say, then you should know just how much of the Christian religion was stolen from older pagan religions, including the virgin birth and the resurrection. All occurred before Jesus. IMHO, religion is a comfort mechanism, to deal with the unknown and the loss of loved ones. We don't know why that tornado hit our house but not the neighbor. We don't know why our perfectly healthy mother was taken from us at an early age by a horrible brain tumor. But if you believe in Christianity (along with some other religions), it's ok, because she is in a "better place" now, and we'll see her again someday. And that "feels" good. So why wouldn't that be popular? It's not a mystery why religion exists, or why so many believe.

Always keep one thing in mind about the religion you so strongly and completely believe in...had you been taken at birth and raised in another part of the world (Isreal, India, China, Afghanistan, etc..), there is very real chance that you're beliefs would be drastically different. Shows you how geographically driven religion can be.
