How Do You Say The Word, Our

I was only teasing about the Yankee part. LoL But I am curious also as to how the word, our, is pronounced in different areas.

When I was in Iowa, I heard the word creek called a, crick. I say, creek with a long e not a short, i.

That is because "creek" is the sound you hear when you step on a loose floorboard. Crick is you swim in on hot summer days.

uh uh. Crick is what you get when you have a sore neck.

By the way, you Iowa person, pop is the sound a balloon makes when stuck with a pin. Soda is the sweet, bubbly concoction that you drink. I lived in Iowa for three years so I know all about pop and soda.

Actually, Iowa was full of incredibly sweet people. I liked it there.

I was born and raised in central Ohio and I pronounce it "are". That may be because my mom was raised in Kentucky and West Virginia and my grandmother grew up in Kentucky as well. I also say crick and warsh instead of wash.

I'm a Southerner but I homeschool two of my children so when teaching phonics to my daughter I forced myself to pronounce words like "dog" the way they should be pronounced phonetically, not regionally. Then one day I heard my cousin, who is a middle school math teacher, telling her Kindergarten son to read the word "dog". When he couldn't do it, she said, "D O G says dawg"... I laughed so hard I thought I was going to wet myself!

Are you one of those people that have the 3 wise men dressed as firemen in the nativity scene in front of your house? After all, everybody knows that the 3 wise men came from a far.
