I have a silkie with bumble foot, how would I wrap the foot after taking care of the bumble foot? Also it is not a large spot at all but one spot and 2 smaller spots. What would be the best way to treat it, is it possible to not do surgery? Thanks!!!!

I am going to try and post a pic so that maybe someone can tell me if I need in fact to do anything. There doesn't seem to be any swelling. I am really trying not to stress them out any further since they are new birds and I have bathed them and dusted them. On top of had to move them around so much b/c of rain. I am just trying to figure out how you would wrap a 5 toed feather footed bird! My DH calls them alien chickens lol! But he loves them and wants to keep them inside!

If you do decide to wrap, vet wrap might work. It is kind of like ace-bandage material, but it sticks to itself. You can get something similar at most pharmacies, too. It might have to be cut down to size, but it will not stick to those feathery feet!

I've wrapped brahamas with feathered legs and feet. Not quite as easy as a bare leg and foot, but doable. I use co wrap, which you can get at tractor supply in the horse section, comes in 4" wide rolls, I cut a strip the length I want and then cut into narrower widths, whatever width works for the bird. I usually make them a little narrower for the smaller hen feet than I do for larger roo feet. When wrapping feathered legs and feet, just don't wrap too tightly and make sure the feathers are wrapped in the direction they grow. If I have a very large shaft I've even wrapped letting that one stick out if needed. For bumblefoot I usually wrap the foot well and have a couple of turns around the ankle to help make sure it's going to stay on. Whether you need to wrap or not, pictures would be needed to see. Some small bumbles may heal with just topical treatment, if you have to open it and clean it out then I would wrap it until it's healed up. Every foot is a bit different.
