Why do chickens lay like this (aka on it’s side)?!! I’ve been searching this forum and google for months. All that comes up is they are dirt bathing. But dirt bathing on a wooden deck? I don’t think so. One of mine does the same which is why I ask.

They are so funny. First time one of mine did this I thought it had a broken leg

I think your little chick is just experimenting at this stage and probably won't start crowing regularly for a few weeks yet.
The earliest mine have started crowing regularly is at 8 weeks, then it takes a couple of weeks for them to get the sound right and there's no stopping them. I doubt your little chick will start waking you up with the sunrise in his brooder. Although that would be adorably annoying.
