How far back do you go?

Hear!Hear! I noticed if I take break a and then go back Ancestry will keep offering different freebie subs. Just don't forget to cancel before you get charged, and make sure you can really devote extra time for research to get the most of your trial.

I looked at onegreatfamily, but didn't want to sign up. They wanted my telephone number.

I wonder -- if anyone here has an account, would you be interested in looking up a surname for me and sending me the info???

Yeah, they never bothered me and were very courteous about cancelling. Now onegreatfamily is a different story. I got the most info, but it was harder to navigate and harder to cancel. You should get a 2 week with ancestry.You can cancel the day before and not get charged. I did about 3 trials and a few 30 dollar months last year. It was worth the experience, I just can't afford any extras right now. So much for being descended from royalty.

chicabee;
try hard to not get involved with onegreatfamily! unless you are descended from royalty there is not much in the way of matches and they are very difficult to get away from! The trials that rubyv67 was telling you about are a great idea; I subscribe to ancestry but my cousin and I use it a lot, I used the free trial for the canadian ancestry.com and found a lot in 10 days!

I found many of my info by Ancestory, Rootsweb.com and LSD websites. Yes you have to be really careful who you research because it can lead into a wrong path of a wrong ancestor.

I am some so distant "cousin" of Princess Diana which we do have the Spencer family on my dad's side.

I was having difficulty finding my ggg grandfather who supposely came from Paisley Scotland and trying to find him is like a needle in the haystack. UGH! Royal blood, I dont know but one I do know for sure was from Fife, Scotland waaaaaaaaaaay back in the Jacobite rebellion before he was "imported" to US.

I did subscribe to Ancestory for a short period of time as time permitted. Most of the time its during the winter months while daughter goes to school is the only time I get the time to research.

It is very important to check and double check. I actually followed the wrong line on my nana until I realized something was wrong. She's the one from Brig. Gen. John Sevier, so the right path was even cooler. Multiple sources for documentation is best. I noticed alot of relations e-mail me more in summer and around the holidays. Free time and family sentimentality.

mom's side 1890 so far great great grandma was born on the ship coming to america her mother died onboard, the newborn was cared for by a black mother till they arrived were the father was waiting, he took her and left her with his sister and he was never to be seen again, still done know where the ship was coming from she took that to the grave in 1972.
