How far back do you go?

Inbred all the way back to 1200s in south Germany/Switzerland. Came to the US in 1713 when my great^6 grandfather was beheaded for refusing to do a turn in the canton government (Anabaptist). Actually paid for lots of real estate (receipt in the city historical society's records) as opposed to stealing it from the native Delawares and Susquehannocks. And we were always staunchly anti-slavery--isn't that what kids are for, working the farm?

We really are inbred though. Many birth defects run in the family: deafness, polydactyly. I married a foreigner and always swore to adopt if we ever had kids for this reason.

Definitely not royal at all in any way whatsoever. FWIW, I'm a purebred though, 110% PA Dutch. I got the workaholism, the knack for animal husbandry, the green thumb, the stubborn independence, the pasty skin/green eyes combination, the taste for dandelion wine.

Being from the royals is no walk in the park, toomany sins of the fathers type thing. That is so cool the PA Dutch thing. I have one set of grandparents I traced to the Quaker settlement. I've always admired the strong work ethic and independce.

It is a wonder all of us may be related in some way, a neighbor or cousin back in the early days.

Yes I do have Queen Mary of Scots too.

I love all ofyour histories, keep them coming!

I just finished a family history project with my daughter (the one that got me totally hooked on genealogy) and we were able to go back to 6AD! Amazing stuff!!! We also found out that we have several royal ancestors, even the King that had William Wallace killed, Edward I "Longshanks". (lol my kids posted bulletins on Myspace saying our ancestor killed Mel Gibson

) Kids. Once you find one royal person in your family it seems you are related to everyone in Europe, lol.

Longshanks is my grandfather too. 8 times over. Amen to everyone in Europe being a relative!

Braveheart was my alltime favorite movie. Then I found out I come from Malcolm Canmore, Robert the Bruce, Edward l ,Edward ll , the cool Frenchie princess. And I was like AAH! no way. If you would like to see wher we relate you can view my tree on ancestry.com ShelleyDollarhideBlair tree. I would love to share. Cool another cousin, I love it!

Very cool! I will definitely check it out. I haven't put anything online yet, it's all in my Legacy software, but I hope to someday. Yeah they sure are all intertwined

My son last night said "so we are related to people all over the word we don't even know? That's just weird."

Where are all you guys doing your family trees? I haven't done much myself, but could probably use some help.

I know that the majority of my great grandparents are immigrants from Ireland, Germany and Holland.

I always tell mine when they act up " Is that anyway for the grandaughters of Kings and Queens to behave?" You know what those brats respond? "They're a bunch of dead people mom!"

,I found Ancestry.com, Rootsweb.com ,Allthingschherokee.com, LDS family library online,Myheritage.com, Onegreatfamily.com. I went a little obssessed when I acomplished 400 years of research over a weekend, when it took 20 years to only reach 1700 in the US. Good luck.

most of my research has been done through ancestry.com and scotlandspeople.gov.uk. records in ireland are harder as alot of records were destroyed or burnt although they are in process of putting the 1901 census online free

how have people managed to go back so far-ive got stuck in the 1750s so am intrigued
