How far can you hear your rooster???

I think it all just depends on the day/weather too, as to how far you can hear something.
We live about 17 miles from the closest set of train tracks, and on a clear calm night I can hear that train whistle coming through. Yet we live about 5 miles from the closest town (if you wanna call a gas station and weather siren a town). Well anyway living only 5 miles away I have yet to ever hear that tornado whistle go off..I know it's been blowen as others have told me they have heard it, but we have yet to hear that here.

The guineas up the road I can hear clear as a bell. Although there guineas, hens and roosters talk back and forth with ours. I can also hear the cows mooing that are about 8 miles straight as a crow flys over the ridges and what not on a crisp clear morning. So there again I think it just depends.

I can hear mine in the house. Our neighbors love the sound, thankfully, because there is nothing they can do about it due to the way we are zoned. All morning, there are roos crowing one after another from others in the neighborhood.

I have heard them on the other side of our circle. at minimum thats 15 acres away. Gonna be givin those "far off" roosters some competition soon

if your zoned to have them then theres nothing to worry about but if you want to be nice try to be as far away as possible. Your only going to the coop once or twice a day. I can hear my neighbors rooster from time to time if the breeze is right and thats about 1/4 mile away. Now that I only have 1 roo he doesnt crow as much as he used to.

If I can get a really good punt, I can hear him for about 50 yards!

OK, seriously, I can hear my neighbor's rooster and they live a country block away, so that's what...a thousand yards? I'm sure they can hear mine too.

I know I can hear my Serama roo accross 20 acres! LOL I tried it. It's no where near annoying but you can hear it. My neighbor is about 1/2 acre away and they love hearing the roosters crows in the morning. Mine never start till about 7 though...than it's non stop till about 9am! But the neighbors are up at 6 and than they go to work so they enjoy it while they get ready for work. She said she even opens her windows just to hear them

We're on .93 acre in a subdivision in the country... our mailing address is a town that isn't even in this county

... so we're definitely not in any town or city limits. Our subdivision does not have an HOA. It has some restrictive covenants that have never been enforced and I don't know who would enforce them.

My question... how do I find out if we're zoned to be able have chickens or not? One of my neighbors in this subdivision said she is zoned as a mini farm (she has several acres, 3-4, w/ chickens and goats.) I'd like to know about my property. Is this something I can find on my county's website? If so, what should I look for? Thanks!
