How far do you live from Walmart?

Quote:
Its walmart, so it was probably 1.96 walmart ends in 6 guess that is so any one that sells for .99 they beat by .03 Though I rarely go to walmart.

That's their way of slashing prices, all they have to do is flip the 9!

Here we go You guys are full of stuff

You wouldnt find me dead unless I was tied up kicking and screaming, drug by 2 horses and a small mule, BUT I DO LOVE SAVING MONEY.

You CAN NOT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. You can shop at walmart, or not. You can pay 9.96 for a shirt at walmart or you can pay 15.99 for the EXACT same shirt bought at a non-walmart, but still imported form indonesia where the sweet shop pays a mother of 6(maybe there lies the problem) barely enough to buy a bag a rice a day. Its all from the same sweat shop, just different tags.....go to your local TV dealer if you can find one get the SANYO that was built 1 ahead(or behind) of the one I bought on the same line just put in a generic box not a walmart box, and you will pay a couple HUNDRED more because you bought LOCAL, you still support, SANYO which is not American Made, its just that your local guy buys 10 a year and pays more to Sanyo than what walmart sells them for.

Bottom line unless you are gonna get AMERICAN made(good luck) everything you are still supporting the sweat shops and foriegn countries, just it is costing you more to support them, Walmart cuts out the Middle Man in support to other countries

As far as getting chinese goods, your local guy is selling them too, not as many but selling the same goods, it just soounds better on the news saying WALMART RECALLS MILLION TOYS. Local guy also has to honor the recall, but he only bought 5 and 4 are still on the shelf isnt as catchy of a news opener.

Two that are 20 minutes away, not superstores though, and the superstore is 40 minutes away. I have not been to a superstore yet.

.97 miles - 15 within 20 miles.

I will not shop there either. Nice to see so many of us....I have found by buying local & organic to be more costly, so I have adjusted my portions, have yet to see results of that though

I thought that was you in front of me in the checkout line, maybe not. Next time you buy something local(assuming{shouldnt do that} you mean from a small town merchant) flip the box over and see where it was manufactured. If it says anything other than USA (remember manufactured not packed in) then you can probably cross the street and get it for less.

EDITED TO ADD: Sorry Nadine, I am not trying to single you out, and I dont want to see a Mdbucks picked on me thread, I am just trying to point out that just buying from the small guy solves nothing. And the fact that almost nothing is made in USA anymore. Should I mentiong HD to really get feathers ruffled??

Hmm.. just as a thought.. I don't want to support China (or most imports) either.. but I do think by shopping locally (even if it's the SAME tv) does help out the store you are shopping at. Sure, SANYO still gets their money, but at least the other store stays in business.

I think this is two different issues: 1.) Not supporting importation from countries with lax safety regs. 2.) Not adding to Wal-Mart's already staggering profits, and forcing the littler guys to go out of business.

I try to avoid #1, but do what I have to, I guess. I most defin. do #2, since we barely ever go to the big W.

Back on topic.. I heard that at any one time 1/4 of the population is shopping in a Wal-mart AT THAT TIME! YIKES.

No worries, and the point you make is valid.

I am a label reader. I have become down right petty on where my dollar goes. I am at the stage of life that instead of wanting to accumulate things, I am wanting to downsize. So "boycotting" a place to me just means one less person/place/thing getting their hand in my pocket.

I am frugal and I will get the same "Walmart" pricing but I will get it from a corporation that I do not have such "moral" problems with. And I was being rather myopic in the "local & organic" statement - I was focusing on food. Guess that shows I skipped breakfast.

Is that 1/4 of all shopping at that time or 1/4 of the population?? 1/4 of all shoppers could be right, We have a 24 hour walmart, and have never seen the lot MT or even close to MT. I thought I was the only nut up at 3 am, but there are walmart shoppers up too.....

LOL!

Hmm.. Gosh it was so long ago that I heard it now.. but I believe they were saying 1/4 of the entire pop. in this country (USA.) I could be wrong on that, though.

The rare times I go there (I do appreciate the 24hrs feature, especially on a Sunday night at 9pm, when I remember I'm completely out of petfood and snacks for ds's school), it's 1-3am, and there are ALWAYS people shopping.. and this area rolls up it's sidewalks at 9 LOL!

Edited to say: Now that you ask me that, I'm going to do a websearch and see if I can come up with the actual quote.. so don't jump on me yet!!

15 miles to one and 40 miles to the other. We generally try to run all our errands on the same day in the town 40 miles away and hit the walmart before we leave that town. The SO tries to get me to shop at the only other grocery store in the closer town, but it has a smell that I can't get past. I know I'm weird. :|
