How far do you live from Walmart?

Ok.. can't back up my earlier info yet (sorry MDbucks) but here's something from Wiki:

Each week, about 100 million customers, nearly one-third of the US population, visit Wal-Mart's US stores

still looking... also found a weird comment about the fact that very few places are now more than 60mi away from a Wally World..

I live less than a mile from Wal-Mart. There are also 5 within 15 miles of my house. We used to just shop at Meijer because they had everything, but within the last year they remodeled to Super Wal-Mart. It is the neccessary evil it seems. I don't agree with all of it, but they are so close and cheaper on most things. I guess it comes down to convienience and trying to save a penny.

I love reading how so many HATE WalMart but still shop there. Guess so many people hating WalMart is why they keep building them.

Don't get me wrong - WalMart isn't my ideal store either - especially now that they are all the Mega stores that you need a taxi to get from one end to the other.

My WalMart smile story... while at a political function one evening, a conversation started about WalMart. A young couple joined in - the husband, Nick, proudly exclaiming that they boycott the store and NEVER shop at WalMart. It is against everything they stand for. He had to leave early for work but his wife and the kids stayed to watch the returns. Later that night, Dh and I left the meeting, and decided that since we were on that end of town, we'd stop at WalMart to pick up some items on our shopping list. Who did I run in to? Nick's wife. I smiled and said "I thought you guys NEVER shop at WalMart!" she answered "Oh, please don't tell Nick, he'd never understand. But there are some things that I just can't afford to buy anywhere else. I always carry 'Fred Meyer' bags in the trunk of the car to switch over the items into before heading home. He never sees the WalMart bags and what he doesn't know won't hurt him. He's happy thinking he's WalMart pure."

I forgot to mention that when DH & I were house hunting 20 years ago, we were deciding between 2 houses: the larger house in the city, closer to work or the small house in the county. We are both so very thankful that we chose the little house because smack dab against the backyard of the city house is WalMart!

We know that couple that did buy the bigger house ended up going bankrupt and getting divorced because the woman couldn't stop shopping!

DH & I don't shop WalMart, I'm not much for shopping anyway. Guess it comes from years of "doing without" when we didn't have 2 nickels to rub together...so, I can sympathize with those that have to watch every penny.

Amazon.com is my replacement Walmart. I think I buy more on Amazon than any other place. I love selection, and free shipping, and the anticipation waiting for the UPS man to ring the door bell.

ps. I went to the mall determined to buy a pair of shoes NOT made in China. I came home empty handed. We don't have a choice in where all our stuff comes from.

Hotwings, no one should be angry at you, there are many people who shop there to save money, including my DH. I'm sure there are alot of people who are anti-walmart and shop there anyway. That's life

Better be careful with that! That happened with our local UPS man and three women. Turns out his wife wasn't too happy when she found out and chased him around in his little brown truck with a gun in her hand! It was a mess!

I don't shop at Walmart. I buy shoes that are not made in China. There really are choices.

I did all of holiday shopping at stores where I know the people who own them.

I live in a small town and like things this way. I don't give our zip code on the rare trips to large stores, because we don't need their shops any closer than they already are. When I want to move back to suburbia, I'll do so and won't ruin the existing landscape for the next person.

To answer your question directly, about 20 miles, half hour on the highways and that simply isn't far enough for my liking!
