Compost King
Free Ranging
It really depends on the chicken, most just get out of my way and only run if I try to pick them up, actually all of them run when I try to pick them up. I have one that follows me everywhere because the mama who hatched him would follow me everywhere and she taught her chicks to do that. Unfortunately a Neighbors evil pitiful killed her and most of her chicks so the cockerel that survived follows me somewhat like I was his mother however if I try to pick him up he runs away. His mother and him followed me because I am always living stuff up as I work in my evergreen nursery and Crickets hide under the pots bricks and boards I lift up. Not all the chickens have caught on to this easy food trick but a few follow him when he follows me but they won't come close enough to me for me to ever pick them up. I have another Cockerel who was the first I ever hatched and though he tries to avoid it He is easy for me to pick up and grab. He is on the verge of becoming a Rooster. Both of them Are Maran Sex Links, BCM over Cuckoo Marans. I try not to have 2 of the same Male since I only need one but since both of them like me compared to the other chickens I am considering one for breeding and one for leading the flock that free ranges the Nursery to eat the weeds in the potted plants. None of the trees I grow are edible to chickens but from time to time they dig one out or pluck one out before it full roots in the pot. Small price to pay for having all the pots weeded thoroughly.
