How Hardcore are your Chickens?

We have crazy hen named lil’bit she’s a good pound or two smaller than the rest of the hens. Once all 3 of our roosters got in a fight and she came flying off the roost and stayed in the air for about 20 feet and dove in the middle of the fight to break it up. She went broody a few weeks ago and the roosters learned to run if they saw her coming because to would chase they out of the coop. She also tried to kill a hawk once. It missed its target and she came flying right at the hawk screaming. View attachment 2705896

Hercules is pretty mellow with us but if you run past him he will give you the double kick!

This little girl was Madeline. Her mama was a tiny little Dutch hen, daddy was a buff Orpington. So she was small. One spring I got 18 day old chicks and put 6 under her and two other broody girls. One of the other two abandoned her chicks after a couple days and the other kept picking hers up and flinging them out of the nest. So I gave them all to Madeline. They barely all fit under her with her wings spread out. She accepted and raised them all - didn’t lose a single one. She was kind of low in the pecking order and one of her eyes had been pecked out but a ferocious protector and the most badass mama hen I’ve ever had.
