If you clip their flight feathers on one wing, not so high. Having said that, today one of my EEs, wing clipped, easily cleared a 4-foot fence to get to her rooster, who had accidentally gotten out and was calling his hens. I would'na believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. She cleared it with a good foot and a half to spare. Barring this incident, they NEVER get out!

Actually, the secret is to clip em while they're young. Once they learn they can't get out, they don't try any more, and I'm convinced they forget they ever could fly. Here's hoping none of my other hens saw my wild thing make her great escape today and get any funny notions! :barnie:he

Leghorns are notorious escape artist and can fly like a bird. All my chickens (bunch of different breeds) can fly up 10 feet to get on the roof of the chicken pen and house. The ones that no longer sleep on the rafters in the chicken pen, now sleep in the trees. I keep all the lower limbs on all the trees pruned below about 8 or 9 feet, and other than a few silkies that can jump but can't fly, they make it up into the trees to sleep. The broodies have been teaching them to be little tree sleepers soon as they get their wing feathers.

Hmmm so what is each of the chickens weight I have Easter Eggers they are a medium sized breed weighing about 3-5 pounds around 4 if I’m correct how high would you estimate Easter Eggers can fly?
I had an olive egger and she was about 4 lbs but never flew over my fence. My polish are about 2 lbs. The Jersey Giants are about 10 lbs. If you get your chickens used to you, if they fly over you can just walk up to them and pick them up. If they have enough to entertain them inside the fence, they most likely won't fly over. They usually don't go too far from their coop.

My Key West chickens can easily fly 30ft up into the trees. The Silkies can hardly get up on a low perch. They just jump lol. Most of my heavy bodied Marans can easily fly up onto a 7ft fence. I had to cover my runs. One of my Black Maran roos is a good jumper too. He jumps straight up and grabs figs and starfruit 5ft up in the trees. Hes so fat I'm surprised he can jump at all.
