How high is too high?

Roost height can be dependent on landing area.
The higher the roosts, the larger the open floor space needs to be to avoid any crashes.
Sometimes having intermediate landing areas can work ok.
But I like them to roost where I can easily reach them for exams after dark,
and where their night poops can be consolidated for daily removal.

This thread title reminds me of a comedy bit by (I think) Paula Poundstone.
"You say jump, I say how high.... would I have to be to take orders from you!?"
