How is everybody hatching this year?

You all are doing so very well! Well, 48 hours after pipping and no movement after pipping half-way around the eggs, I took two out and put them in a warm, wet washcloth...they were dead

One other one had been cheeping since day before yesterday but only had a small hole. I took it out and helped it out. It is drying off now. The yolk was completely absorbed but the poult just wasn't coming out?? It is beautiful but I must find another baby-something to keep it company. Nothing else happening in the rest of the eggs. I had set 13 eggs and only have one poult

But I will try again sometime.

It seems to be my problem here since they developed and only one survived ...only with my help. It is a still air incubator that I used and I honestly forgot it was a still air. What adjustments should I have made if any? This one little guy is cheeping well and seems to be very strong. I have more eggs outside in the nest inside the pen but that will take another 28 days. I do need to find a room-mate for this one. LOL

Did the poults drown in the shell? If they just pip a little hole and the liquid drips out then your humidity was to high during incubation and they didn't draw down enough. It doesn't sound like that to me since you said that a few pipped around the shell. If they can't get out like that it's not humid enough. And a big thing is not to open the incubator if have a small one. If you have cabinet type you can open it and take them out and just do a quick misting and they are fine. What day did they start pipping? If it's day 28 your temp is just a touch low. Idealy they should start pipping day 27 and be out by day 28 but it's rare that ever happens. If you sent different size eggs the smaller ones will hatch before the bigger ones.

Yes your poult needs a buddy, turkey are social birds and do much better in groups.

Ok, now I think I know what went wrong...I opened one of the little windows to turn an egg...and didn't have enough humidity. I had a sponge with a straw down to it from the vent hole and tried to keep enough water in it but must not have been enough. I got four Pilgrim goslings a few days old this morning so the poult has room-mates

While at the breeder's house buying the goslings we also came home with a wonderful poultry/watch dog!! Now how lucky can a person get? She is part mastiff/great dane. She came to their house just skin and bone. She belonged to a neighbor who didn't care that she moved in with the breeder. The breeder had too many dogs to begin with so we took her home with us. We love her already. She doesn't mind the poultry and walks among them.

She is HUGE

If you have any chicks they will do fine.

I snapped a couple pictures this morning of our latest hatch. They are a day or 2 old. The pics aren't very good, there is a 250 watt heat lamp in it and the pics come out red, then I turned it off and to dark. lol Today I will seperate them into smaller batches and move them to other brooders with more room.

I absolutely LOVE your dog Ozark!!! She's a real beauty.
Of the first three Bourbon eggs I put in the incubator all three have hatched beautiful little Bourbon babies. The next hatch is due May 7th. I hope I continue to have this kind of hatching success. Oh, and I did have to put a 4 week old chick in with the turks as they weren't eating or drinking. Now they've adopted this poor little EE roo as their Mama.
