I got 8 from them in April. Lost one the first night. The others are thriving. I ordered with three other people and of all their chicks only one was lost. I'm not sure where they are in Iowa. It seems that the flooding is mostly in the east thought the tornado last week was in the west.

I was just looking at mcmurray. They are in webster city north of des moines which I believe is one of the not so flooded areas. At least I did hear they were sending people up to that area and then down into des moines to get across iowa. They are on the other side of the river from me though so I doubt they can get birds to me for a few weeks.

ordered 31 chicks in april to ship june 1. they arrived june 1. ?? got 40, the free rare, an extra phoenix roo, and 7 red star roos for warmth. 1 wasn't so perky right off, died on day 2 along with 1 other. the rest look fine at 2 weeks.

Got 26 first week of March. Several did not make it - died within first 24 hours. That was the period that everyone was talking about AE at M McM. So I was sad to lose the sickly ones I lost, but to me that is just reality. They took responsibility, were great about it on the phone, wanted to know exactly who died, etc., even offered, unasked, to replace them or credit me, to which I said no, frankly.

I still love their chicks, love their service, love their quirky, fun catalog, love their knowlege and exerience, and I gather they are the backbone of their community in Iowa.

And every single chicken in my backyard - the 14 week olds and the one year olds, all Murray McMurray birds, are thriving, beautiful specimens of their breeds.

Anyway, so glad to see someone just asking about this, and people responding honestly with their own experiences , rather than the slam that can sometimes come all too easily when chatting . . .

with contented chirpy clucks to you all,

Old News , I know put just ran across this post ,
I too order from MM Back in feb. 2008 order 50 plus asst chicks due in Mar 2008 which I received 45 live chicks short 5 plus free one any way with in that 1st week time period I lost 6 , the 2nd week I lost 8 more ,by the time I e-mail them on the which was the end of the 1st week told them what happen to the end of the 2nd week in which the contact my e-mail I email them back by the 3rd. to the being of the 4 th. week I ending up losing more- a total of 23 birds lost out of 50 plus they keep emailing me but with no response back and no credit of cash to my CC. finally after the 6 weeks they e-mail me and told me to call them well by this time I refuse to I was to piss off , I order from them because I was told there where good and stood by there chickens . anyway I am please now to what I did end up with but not happy on how they responded or very slow responds to solve that they had a problem with the hatching chicks and not getting a refund for my lost .never gave me a expansion on why or what the reason I explain how and what I did from day 1 to the week of the 4th. They said I did everything right , but that was it .I didn’t know at that time they where having problems .

Anyway I ‘m giving them another chance just order 25 more chicks due in sept 30 2008 we see what happens this time around , but this time I won’t sit back and be quite and get piss off and just sit back ,this time I will demand a refund and take future step

Glad I found this site lots of infor.

Thanks
Al.

As far as we know, they have everything under control now. The chicks I received at the end of February are beautiful laying hens now (various breeds) and of the two orders that I placed since then of 50+ birds, only one died, but she just failed to thrive. The rest are growing beautifully.

I feel badly for the people that were caught up in it all...

, but I think that it is safe that it is behind us now.
