How is your flock today?

I agree, Just glad I am around to help out when I can. No one likes to see and or have a sick pet. :( I am kind of not so new at having different animals (pets). Just glad to have an awesome resource as BYC members to help me through it all. :)
A goat is more ambitious in the animal dept. than I am! We make more of a pet out of our chickens than a farmer would. But, I try and think of the chickens more in the nameless farm animal category than the pet category. Not always successful at that! I have some favorites. Unfortunately, I really like my rooster, even gave him a name, "Randy". I know that he is not long for this world in the best of circumstances!

I wholeheartedly agree. I would be a hypocrite if I said none of our animals never made it to the dinner table.

I look at it this way....... they are all pets big or small and a person has a humane responsibility to do their very best they can at keeping them happy and healthy until that day arrives. Pets or meat animals, they all need to be treated with respect as long as a person has them. :)

Hello, How is everyone and their Flock doing this fine day?

Everyone at our place is doing well, Even Scooter the newly born baby goat. Our four hens are starting to lay fairly consistent every morning, even our problematic girl is doing good and keeping up with her sisters. :)

We finally had a dry spell for about a week and things were really starting to dry up nice. Now we are back into our monsoon spell again for the next few day according to the local forecast. The Big Mud Holes were even dry for a change and now full up to the tops again! :barnie

I had thought my purchasing a new pair of Muck Brand Muck boots, the weather would dry up and I wouldn't be needing them. After having wore them for a few days now, I can fully understand why they cost some much. They are an amazingly comfortable boot and well worth the money for anyone who needs a tough rubber boot. I was on my third pair of not so cheap rubber boots and was lucky to get about a month out of each pair before they would crack at the flex point and start leaking muddy water in which really sucks! Problem solved now. LOL :)

Yesterday I did notice Chewy do his little wing down dance for one of his girls. Then he jumped on for a split second and that was that, not sure if anything even Happened? I been keeping an eye on him to see if he has been trying anything with the other girls, but they just seem to keep chasing him away still.

Sunny and bright for the next three days. Possibilities of rain next week, and we could use some.

11 to 15 weeks until I get my chicks! :barnie Not sure how to make it that long!

Oh, I know... just think of all the things I need to get done by then, either chick related or not. Yup, gotta get busy!

I've been pulling up baby weeds from the garden to give to the chickens. I'm just waiting for the plantain to start growing. Last year it was their favorite weed.

@416bigbore It's always good to have a pair of mud boot's handy, because you never know when the weather will decide to get crazy. You can find out if Chewy is making his mark by cracking an egg or two open to see if they are fertilized.

@Sally PB You have to wait that long for chick's? They won't be laying egg's until next spring getting them that late in the year. I pull up weed's for my flock also to give them, because mine do not free-range.

My flock is doing good. It seems strange to find those little white pullet Dorking egg's out there with the other tinted tan, brown, and green egg's. I'm going to have to replace my bucket that I keep out by the coop. It's wearing out at the little circle on the bottom and water now is starting to leak out of it. I'll buy some more of those pickle bucket's at Firehouse sub's. They sell those empty bucket's with the lid's that only had the pickles in them, so they are food grade.

@BlueBaby, I have to wait because I want Blue Australorps. I can get 5 (my max I have room for) from a semi-local breeder, but she won't have any until June. So, yeah, I gotta wait. I could get some earlier if I had room for a bunch more... but I don't.

I understand having to sometimes wait for what you really want. Good luck with them when you get them. Make sure you come back here to brag about them when you do. ;)
