How is your flock today?

She was sold as a California white, she is white with black spots and a brown overcast over her head and chest

Yes, it doesn't seem like there would be any red in her at all if she was what she was labeled as being. She must have something that was red in her family tree. She might not be laying white egg's if she has started.

she hasn't yet. I watch those chickens like hawks, she never goes into the nest box and isn't laying elsewhere.

We will see what color egg she does lay, when its time.

@416bigbore Well, have you checked your egg's yet to see if Chewy is fertilizing them?
Hello, Sorry for the delay in answering you earlier. My PC has been messing up for whatever the reason and I keep getting booted from the connection.

No I have not had time to check any chicken eggs yet to see if they are fertile or not? Chewy seems to have a thing for the female ducks over his four hens. Not sure if this will quit or I may have to separate our mixed flock.

Yesterday and today have both been nice days after our three days of showers so I have been busy outside trying to take advantage of that also. If the forecast is right, we are looking at more rain for this next weekend! :barnie

Collected eggs, one oddly shaped egg was found. it was either A. My Faverolles pullet. Or B. Its Nels egg.

Nel Is my girl who has been laying for 2 weeks, she may still be getting a hang of this whole egg thing

It MIGHT be Truvys (faverolles), but I've noticed that my new layers either lay MASSIVE eggs, or tiny eggs. the one I picked up was smaller than the others, and oddly round, but its more likely Nel's.

It might be caused by the lastest microsoft update. There's supposed to have been a problem with one of the recent updates.

Yes, separate them. You aren't' trying to hatch anything that could go "cluck, cluck, quack." :gig

Hopefully if it does rain there you won't get too much of it.

That is so funny you mention the Microsoft update, I had that little update icon sitting at the upper top right of my PC screen for over a week. Then when my PC started to act a little goofy so I decided to reboot and that is when it wouldn't keep me connect for more then a few seconds at a time. I thought maybe that was my old PC just acting it's age! LOL

" Cluck, Cluck, Quack " Too Funny ! I did check into that just in case Chewy could hurt one of the duck hens by trying to mate them, unlike a Drake that can hurt a chicken trying to mate them.

Yes in the process of getting everyone separated, mixed flocks can and do have their issues at times. :barnie

It was a little breezy yesterday and that sure did help dry things out a little. At least the temps are not dropping below 30 F at night so I don't have to keep blowing the water lines out every night, so that's a good thing. :)

Yesterday Chewy must have had another rush of young Rooster hormones going on. He has been starting to crow in the mornings regularly and then shuts up for the rest of the day. Not yesterday, he crowed on and off most of the day and he was on his girls the most I have ever seen him do at any one time. I will give him a week yet and then start checking a few eggs.

I have an older friend who said he wants a few fertile eggs to incubate for his grand kids. I will be curious to see the colors since the Isa Browns won't breed true from what I have read.

Yesterday, my cockerel and pullets officially became rooster and hens! yay! :celebrate

They also got out for the first time (my fault), and it took an hour to get them back in. boo!:duc

Nobody got hurt and they had an adventure! yay... ish... :hmm

Stressed the heck out of me!

Chickens do not herd as well as ducks! Favorite treat is how I get them to go in. Or, just wait for dark, they will go in to roost. I have large hawks and a busy neighborhood, so the chickens only free range while I am out gardening or hanging out with them.
