Oh no! Not my pet chickens! I'd happily munch on some meat birds, but not my babies!

If they don't lay though, I'll have to warn them. Parront across town woulda eaten you by now! Maybe they will scare them?
Pets with benefits have to pay their rent here! Some of my German Jewish ancestors preferred hens in their chicken dinners! An old hen that does not lay much any more is the best chicken soup! A young hen not quite laying is a prized dish.

after I scrape all their fat off, I don't think there will be much left. Mine are chunkers.

The fat is the best part of an old hen that has quit laying. You save it in jars and use it like bacon grease. Fry your potatoes, spread it on your toast is what my German Grandmother did. She saved "schmaltz" to use in all her cooking.

I remember when I was a kid that my mom used to fry up chicken and then save it to cook other thing's in it later on. It sure helped the flavor of some of the stuff that she fried later. She would also save bacon grease.
