How is your flock today?

I can understand that. I have some favorite pet chickens buried in the garden! I do not make the kids eat them. But, now that they are grown, I eat them. One of my kids is a dyed in the wool vegetarian. I take credit for that -- if you can't look what you eat in the face and eat it, maybe your are a vegetarian. Most of us eat chicken. She stopped eating chicken when she was 9. She quit eating any meat in college.

I'm not much on veggies, but I do like to have my meat.

I might stop eating meat when I move out, for now, its apart of my families diet, and I'd starve if I didn't.

I just couldn't eat one of my chickens without thinking of how sweet they where, and how much time I spent with the,

I can't look at what I eat in the face, and eat it.. nope. I can eat food that I am not attached to. I am confident if I raised meat birds, and just only interacted with them to feed and water, I could eat them.

Couldn't eat my backyard flock though.

I have NOTHING against anybody who does, though! I think its much more humane than getting chicken from the store. I just couldn't do it.
I believe it is a very healthy diet to not eat anything with a face. My kids could not eat the meat birds. They named them the "Fat Biddies". They were young, and I can see that you are a young person. You will find your own way, as we all do. If you were very hungry, at least you have the knowledge that you would need to raise your food and you have the option to eat it or sell it. Many do not have this understanding in our time. My Grandparents and their parents did not have the luxury of having pet chickens. :)

Perfect advice

Well, my flock now has one of those goat trough feeder's that hook's over the fence. I bought 2 of them from TSC, but only hung one of them over my horse panel railing that makes up my chicken run. Had to place a bit of wood boarding behind it to make it a tighter fit over the railing. I didn't put the metal top thing on it though. This is the one here:

I'd be afraid of them roosting on it and pooping in water.

I'm going to see how they work out, or if my DH and I will have to figure out something else if they try to roost on it.
If you hung it on the outside of the fence with a gap large enough for them to put their heads out to eat, like some of the chick brooders do, they couldn't roost on it. But then I guess the local wildlife might get a chicken head.

I don't think that would be a good idea. Hey, I seen a road runner out in the front yard the other day.
