Year, Year and a halfI have a question for you about quail. They say that the females start laying egg's at about 6 week's of age. Since they mature so fast, how long of an average lifespan do they have?

One of the bigger varieties are the California if that helpsI had thought about getting some before, but if I ever did I would get some of the bigger sized quail.
I sure don't miss the wind blowing, and yes with the wind chill can cut right through a person if your not dressed for it. Do you get those big red dust storms in your area of AZ? I have our coop big enough so I can stand in there out of the rain if need be to watch them.I wish I could go out and sit with the flock, but it's so windy out there that it makes it feel colder than it is (wind chill factor from NNE). Here's what I have here right now.

Miss Piggy one of our little Mallard hens was acting a little goofy late yesterday afternoon and I thought maybe she was egg bound again, but this morning she seemed fine. The last time she was a little worse off and I gave her an oral dose of Calcium Gluconate and that did the trick and got her back on track. That Calcium Gluconate is some amazing stuff and not very expensive.
It's so much nicer when they don't have any issues with laying their one egg for the day. This morning when I went to feed them and let them out for the day. One of our bigger Rouen/Pekin hens leaned over into the feed dish and dropped her egg out at the same time. For the most part they are good about using a straw nest, but not that time! LOL
It's been drizzling all morning on and off and from the forecast, looks like it is going to do this all day and through tomorrow. Then if they are correct with their prediction for Saturday, a high of 71, so if the sun is going to shine it should make for a nice day![]()
