how long are Eggs good for ? Help

From what I've read, that seems to be true and we never wash our eggs until we're ready to use them - refrigerated or not. They have a natural antibacterial coating that prevents bacteria from getting in through the shell. If you wash them and remove that, then you run a greater risk of cooties. Or so I've read but it makes sense to me!
