How Long Before PulletsLay Full-Size Eggs?

Hmm. At $1/doz I am practically giving them away already.
They are selling for a lot more than that around here. Maybe you could continue at 1.00 for the little ones, but crank up the price when those big eggs start coming. Our farm store is selling free range eggs for 3.75/dz, last time I checked.

Amazing! Are the Comets the ones with the short life spans? I remember looking at some that were real high production but they burn out early. Don't remember if it was the Comets...
Yes it's Comets. I had 5 of them, 40 months later, 2 left.
I lost my first at 23 months, egg bound.
At 24 months a Comet retired from laying. Last month I had to put her down, she was lethargic and sickly.
At 25 months I had to put down another, she was bleeding internally.
Out of the two I have left only one lays daily. The other is semi retired. I got 3 eggs from her the past month.
The fifth hen took a break last winter to molt, no eggs for 3 months. Since then she's laying 6/7 eggs weekly, unbelievable. Here is a recent pic of the amazing hen. 20190702_193840.jpg with the Rocks in the background.
I didn't want another sex-links this time around so I got the Barred Rocks.
I may try Black sex-links in the future, I don't know. GC

I do 'pullets dozens'....6 'regular' eggs then enough pullet eggs to make a 'large' carton weight(24ozs). Then I don't have to change my price or accounting, just simpler for me that way.

Thanks. I know my eggs are worth much more than what I am charging. Walmart gets close to $5/doz for organic free-range eggs. I don't feed organic though, my lands, have you priced that stuff??? Right now my prices are low because I sell to a couple of elderly ladies on fixed incomes, who were close of friends of my late MIL. Also, at the moment I only have about two dozen eggs a week to sell so it's not that big a deal. I think next spring, when I have more eggs, I will do things differently in a couple of ways. First I will buy fresh cartons and may stop using used ones entirely. I always date my eggs and they are clean, which my customers appreciate, as it sets me apart from others. Then I will be able to raise my prices.

Ah, good idea, thanks. I don't have any of those big cartons but I'll bet I can figure out something that will keep the customers happy. ;)

I sought out the 18ct cartons specifically to make pullets dozens.
I always use used cartons, over and over again....but I have only have a few customers who all are very conscientious.
