How long does hatching process take?

There is nothing wrong with wanting ducks to recognize you as a source of food and protection. She is wanting humans to be recognized as a care giver just like momma duck is.
But I'm not getting the impression, I'm taken her comment as she wants all the credit for what the Momma duck is doing and apparently it doesn't quite work like that.

Mommy ducks are the best care giver, they will protect, they will make sure they get food, they will do everything necessary for those babies..there's really no reason for us humans to be involved or interfear with her work...

I have heard that chicks raised by a broody hen are always going to be a bit more shy than those who are hatched out in an incubator and are handled more often. It makes sense that is would be the same with ducks too. I am sure if you just spend time with them they will recognize you and warm up to you. Make sure momma duck is okay with you holding them and you should be okay.

Sorry, I disagree, I think she should leave the babies with there momma and let her do her thing. She's more trained and knowledgeable at this then we are and can do a much better job..

I have never had a duck "depend" on me and I have hatched out MANY. Now your correct on chickens the more you handle them the more they warm up to you. But in this case she has a Momma do the work, I can't see inter fearing with her job. She may regret you doing so, if you want a Duck to warm up to you, then I would say hatch some out and never let them have the great outdoor freedom, keep them in a cage so that you can handle them each day and make them an indoor pet.

But I should warn you they are MESSY

I'm sorry your babies didn't make it. This was my first time hatching as well, and I'm shocked that I have 1 duck and 1 goose already. I have a goose waiting to break out right now as well as 2 others that are going on lock down tonight. I lost one 2 days ago though. No clue why? I went to candle it and there are blood clots and loose material floating around. The only thing I can think of is something genetically was wrong?

I plan to get more eggs, but I can't find the sebastapol eggs anywhere? I know I spelled that wrong LOL

Big hugs, chin up. You can do this!!! Get some more eggs and you and I can hatch together :)

NICE, wooo hoo

I guess I didn't read her comment right. I wasn't under the impression she wanted to replace momma, just have the ducklings recognized that she is a caregiver too. I have never owned ducks but I have owned geese and i feel it is important to work with them or they can be mean.

By work with them I don't mean take them away from mom but rather hold them and spend time around them so they get used to you. My geese were sweet to me but they hissed at strangers and would nip sometimes.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO. why do you say that??????

The quote doesn't say but are you asking about my eggs? No movement yesterday or today. I have even tapped on the pipped egg and whistled at it. Nothing. I don't know what to do at this point. I am scared to take them out because I don't want to accidentally end a life but I don't want them to rot. I think I will give it till tomorrow, but I am pretty sure they are gone.

Yes of course I'm asking about your eggs. OK when is the due date??

Rural, I have a goose that was due yesterday too. One did hatch yesterday, and this one will hopefully come out tonight. I did something kind of funny, I read somewhere that when the first chick hatches and starts peeping, it stimulates the other babies and they get a peckin at their egg. Whether this is true or not, I can't say, but it does make sense. So, yesterday, before Moose hatched, I found this video on youtube....

I brought it up on my cell phone, cranked up the volume, and placed the speaker part of my phone over the bator vent. OMG it was hilarious! They started going nuts! I did it about 5 times yesterday and sure enough, moose hatched. Today the next egg was pipped, so I started playing that video again and the baby started pecking away.

It doesn't hurt to try. Don't forget too, mine will go a long time in between moving and I often probably have bad timing. I could go check on the eggs and I don't see anything, but for all I know, it was pecking for 15 minutes straight before I got to it, so it was sleeping.

Yesterday. I have spent a great deal of time staring into the bat or window and haven't seen even the tiniest of movements. You mentioned that they rest. How long?

Resting is usually 1 day, can you candle them? Check to see if they are pushing on the membrane or if you can see a beak or anything.. It's going to be dark at the little end but just look at where the air cell is see if you can see any pushing..

If so then lower your humidity, I think I told you to have it at 70 if so get it down lower like 60-65
