How long does hatching process take?

Rural, I have a goose that was due yesterday too. One did hatch yesterday, and this one will hopefully come out tonight. I did something kind of funny, I read somewhere that when the first chick hatches and starts peeping, it stimulates the other babies and they get a peckin at their egg. Whether this is true or not, I can't say, but it does make sense. So, yesterday, before Moose hatched, I found this video on youtube....

I brought it up on my cell phone, cranked up the volume, and placed the speaker part of my phone over the bator vent. OMG it was hilarious! They started going nuts! I did it about 5 times yesterday and sure enough, moose hatched. Today the next egg was pipped, so I started playing that video again and the baby started pecking away.

It doesn't hurt to try. Don't forget too, mine will go a long time in between moving and I often probably have bad timing. I could go check on the eggs and I don't see anything, but for all I know, it was pecking for 15 minutes straight before I got to it, so it was sleeping.

YOUR RIGHT, they do respond to those that are out, that's why I say if you can get ONE out, it will be like dominos.

Resting is usually 1 day, can you candle them? Check to see if they are pushing on the membrane or if you can see a beak or anything.. It's going to be dark at the little end but just look at where the air cell is see if you can see any pushing..

If so then lower your humidity, I think I told you to have it at 70 if so get it down lower like 60-65
The humidity is down to 65 now and the temp has been good for two days. I think they just couldn't take being at 108 and died. I really haven't seen any movement and the veins look duller than they used to if that makes sense.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want them imprinted on humans?? So unnatural, ESPECIALLY if you have other ducks and not just some sad little loner that you're trying to make into a pet. That is SUCH a bad idea when they have a mother who will raise them better than you ever could.  I handle my ducks twice a year to clip wings, that's all.  They come up to me for food and that's as tame as they need to be.

Mine are my pets, like a dog or a cat...we are not a farm, just a nice suburban area...I am their primary caregiver... Why shouldn't I want them to "love" me and imprint on me? The closer we are the better I can protect them from dangers! If they come to me when called and let me handle them, then when they're in a jam I can respond much faster than trying to chase them in circles . The first two ( mom
And dad of eggs)respond when called and listen better than the other 4, that's because they bonded as a flock ( which is ok) I'm not trying to separate or segregate from the flock, I was merely trying to find a way to get them to recognize me as a nurturer and a non feathered mother.... No selfishness, or malice intended.

OH CRAP that's right, I forgot about that. HUM when are they due??

IF your past the due date make them a safe hole then smell inside the hole. That should tell you if they are dead or not..

That is the impression I got from what you wrote and I totally agree with you.

Thanks, I will try that. I did one last night with a pin in the one that had internally pipped. I couldn't smell anything but I didn't feel any movement. I will put holes in the ones that have dipped. There were two that hadn't dipped, should I leave them alone?

Well, I opened a bit of the pin hole up and couldn't smell anything, but there was no movement. I could see the bill so I gently poked it. Dead. I opened them all up and saw that they were fully formed an a few more than I thought had internally pipped. They were within hours of hatching when they died. I am just heart sick. My sweet neighbor lent me the incubator and it was a bit of an old one. I guess I just figured it would all be fine. My darling husband has been trying to comfort me. He told me that he wanted to get me my own incubator for Mother's Day and that I could pick the perfect one that wouldn't malfunction (such a cutie pie). I feel so bad about my fuzzy babies.

I'm so sorry to hear about your babies! :( On the other hand, now is your opportunity to get a good reliable incubator. I got this one... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00303XAHO/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's a bit pricey, but it does EVERYTHING for you. Keeps the heat steady, turns them and has an automatic water pump! You set the % for humidity and it keeps it there!!

Hubby should get this for you!
