How long does it take for a chick to become an adult ?

Define adult

I consider a bird an adult when they start laying eggs so about 6 months old.

Although, by definition...

hen: female over one year old
pullet: female under one year old (includes chick)
cock: male over one year old
cockeral: male under one year old (includes chick)
chick: a young bird you still think looks like a chick!
