How long does it take to actually hatch a chick from an incubator?

Welcome! It can take 24 hours from pip to hatch so be patient. Trying to help too soon is never a good idea. If they are chicken chicks they can last for 3 days on their absorbed yolk without food or water. Quail chicks need to eat sooner and shouldn't be left more than 12 hours before being removed from the incubator and being placed in the brooder. Do you have the brooder set up so it's pre-warmed for the chicks?

It can take over 24 hours from the external pip for the hatching process to finish. Once a chick breaks the shell, it needs to rest. And only once the shell is cracked will the blood vessels begin to recede and the yolk begin to absorb. Once all of that is done, and the chick has gathered enough strength, will the chick then continue to finish hatching. Chicks should stay in the incubator till they are fluffed up and steady on their feet. Once they are fluffed and ready for the brooder, you will dip their beak in the water to show them how to drink and set them under their heat source.
