I have a Bielefelder Roo that is the same age? Would that cross work? As a newbie to hatching chicks, I am guessing that the eggs that are laid from that cross would be EE colored eggs, but that the chicks hatched from those egg[IMG]

I would get something with darker genetics than a Beilefelder for your brown side of the equation - a nice Welsummer, Maran, etc. The resulting offspring would have the potential to produce the color of shell you are seeking. I do have one green layer from an EE/standard brown cross but she doesn't produce the nice, deep, rich olive color that most associate with being an "olive egger"
