I've raised cattle dogs and endurance horses for 35 years, now it's time to raise chickens. They are too much much fun and so friendly. I love 'em!

My next door neighbor said, "I can't be the only one in the neighborhood w/ BYC! Please take some!" So we've had 1 RIR (she has 'tude and she's laying!) and one BR (she'll catch on soon....?!) since May 7. They are a hoot!

We received our 2 day old hatchlings on March 25. We ordered 5 Rhode Island Reds and 5 White Leghorns...all pullets. Well, one of the Leghorns turned out to be a cockerel, so Buster has a 9 hen harem. They have taught us a lot about patience and love and how much fun raising chickens can be. They have learned that when the rototiller is running, there may be something interesting in the wake. Whenever they hear the small galvanized pail rattle, they all come running to see what special treat we are bringing. And, they have found that green tomatoes are tasty too! Plus, they love fresh watermelon!!! They reward us with the most delicious large, X-Large and Jumbo eggs I have tasted since childhood!

Its only been 2 years for us, we started with a small flock of 8, It's amazing how fast that grew to 23...

Chicken math is fun

BYC has been a great source of info for us, and now we can share some of that back to the newer people, and that is a great feeling.
We are going to be adding some goats to our little farm here next spring, and I get to start over as the newb on your sister site Backyardherds. can't wait lol

I have had my chickens for about 7 months and have finally been getting eggs pretty consistently daily, although not as many I as I anticipated! 2 of my little flock of 8 turned out to be roosters!! Lol! So Loretta is now, Roolette and Ruby is now Rudy!

9 months,I like the idea of raising my own food, grew up in the city and never imagined raising chickens, the eggs are great and we have a family day care so I use the chickens as a learning tool, kids love it.

I just began raising chickens in April 2011. My first 3 bantams turned out to be roosters. I kept the friendliest and sold the other two. Then I bought only from the pullet pen

Until the farm store had silkies. I now have 13 chickens. I have, 3 easter eggers, a cochin, a brahma, a cuckoo maran, 5 silkies and an old english game rooster named Caesar. I have no eggs as of yet, but I love my chickens regardless! They free range all day and are put up at night. My chickens are beautiful, friendly and smarter than most people would think. I've gotten many needed answers from Backyardchickens.com! Thank you! Let's make a cleaner, healthier place for our chicken family so we have healthier, cleaner food for our children! Go backyard farmers go!
