how long should light be on them? HELP

Yup! Red is more for heat-- white is to help add light to our dim winter days... they need at least 8 hours of light a day for egg laying...

Our "mornings" do not get light until 8:30 or so... my timer has it on from 10 am (well after sunrise) to 7pm (when it gets dark here) just because the light coming in their windows needs a supplement
(their run was destroyed by a storm, and we have too much Ice/snow for me to fix it yet) and I often can not get out to the coop until after 6pm for their night check!

use a clamp-reflector on a J-hook from the ceiling if you can... then use pliers to bend the hook closed around the clamp.
Make SURE you duct-tape or somehow hide the end of the cord & outlet from them if the electricity is in the coop!!

We have 2 heat lamps for warmth from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM each night. We have 10 hens and currently getting 7 eggs a day which I think is pretty good for winter.

we do the same as most I think; put scratch on the floor to give them something to do and laying mash in the feeder. I also give them table scraps daily which seems to be their favorite.

Like a metal dome around the socket. You can also purchase them with a metal cage around the dome to keep the bulb from coming into direct contact with anything.
You can find the reflector lamps with an attached clamp in the hardware dept. of most stores like walmart.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that you attach the lamp in at least two ways. If it falls it can start a coop fire very easily.
