How long were you on Bev Davis waiting list?

These guys from Greenfire Farms Davis pen are getting huge & I'm looking for homes for the 3 males.

NEW HEN:

I am taking my one extra roo to the local swap this weekend. Have you noticed a difference in the roo's combs yet?

I hand picked my roos and got one from one breeding pen and one from the other.
In other words, one was from the Bev Davis pen and the other was from the other was from Greenfires "own" breeding pen.
There are several differences in these birds - - - -Oh I need to upload some pictures

- - - one of the differences was in the roo's combs.

I was wondering if you are seeing it too?

I just ordered 2 pair (young birds) of Bev Davis BCM from Greenfire. Anyone know the how long the wait is on those?

Lost my stared pair of BCM to a fox last week and had to console myself by buying the best replacements available. Will be building a daytime "fort knox" type run for these new bird when they come, wondering how much time I might have to do that?

The owner of Greenfire farms has always been real quick to respond to any emails I've sent. . . .

So, just email him and ask how long he thinks it will be.

I ordered a dozen chicks from Green Fire Farms. They arrived 3 weeks later than original date and communication with him was poor. I sent him an e-mail a week ago and still haven't had a response. I wasn't impressed. It appears that I received chickens from 3 distinct lineages. The largest are 3-4 times bigger than the smallest. I'm hoping that they mature to be worth the $200 I paid for them including shipping.

I have had dealings with Paul at Green Fire Farms from Jan - May of this year. I emailed him off and on many times during this time period. He was ALWAYS prompt in responding - - - - usually within a few hours. So, continue to email him - - - - he may be having computer problems or sick or whatever. . ..

As far as I could tell when I visited his place - - - it is not a huge operation - - - there is Paul and one other worker for sure. However, I don't think there are too many other people involved. So, keep this in mind when you are trying to get hold of him.

I got my birds from him in April of this year and I was left with the impression that there were only two blood lines. I have one roo from each and I can tell the difference in the two blood lines and much prefer the Bev Davis line. My one roo is much bigger than the other, BUT I have observed him dominating the food too. So, the bigger one may be stopping the smaller one from eating as much. I only plan on keeping the bigger one because I like his comb and coloring better. I think the smaller one may have a better angle on his tail feathers.

When I order from him again, I will specify that I want birds from the Bev Davis pen ONLY.

I have heard from my maran threads that Bev's birds are the closest to the proposed standards, but the eggs are not super dark.
At the same time, I have heard the Wade Gene line has much darker eggs, but the birds aren't as close to the proposed standard.
NOW I DON'T WANT TO START ANYTHING ON THIS TOPIC . . . . JUST REPEATING WHAT I HAVE HEARD.

I've been having the worse hatches ever for about a month now. I've gotten so many damaged eggs and spent so much money and have gotten zip. Eggs were all packaged great and sellers were great. The PO sucks eggs!

I did however buy a small flock of 8 hens and 2 roos. All Bev Davis lines, but older birds, so I'm treating any eggs I get like gold. Been really hot and have only had them just over a week, so not many eggs. The hens are in with an older roo and they gave me a 4-5 month old roo that is soooo sweet.

I do intend to buy more hatching eggs, but I'm holding off till we either get the Egg Train functioning or till it cools off. In the meantime I'm trying to get my new girls to be nice to me. They can sure eat, so now they need to up some eggs. LOL These are such mellow birds.

Anyway the BYCer I got these from waited 2 years for the first shipment of chicks ( I think he said chicks) and then decided they wanted more and went back on the waiting list for another year for a dozen eggs. They have their new flock just about at POL, so now I have these to work with.

Oh.......Thought I had a big enough run when I went for them, but they are so huge we spent days adding on. What big combs they have too!LOL

Wolftracks,

I was shocked at how BIG the birds were at Greenfire farms. My roos are 4 months old and they are the same size as my 7 month old EE roo. Their FEET are BIGGER than my 7 month old EE roo. These are gonna be some HUGE birds. My hens are a mix of Ron Presley and Bev Davis line so they are not as big as I think a pure Bev Davis bird would be. However, I do plan on crossing them with that pure roo and see if the next generation will plump up.

I still want to get my hands on some pure Bev Davis hens. I need to add some room to my existing set up BEFORE I do that. I do so love the personality of my girls.
