how long

My magpie ate all her eggs so I wouldnt be able to help * gives sharpie the stink eye* bad mama wanna be 17 egg eating varmit....

hope your mama does better. I did give some of her eggs to my buff who hatched them, so it wasnt a total loss. PICTURES of your broody are in order! !!

she shouldn't stay on for more than a day after ALL of the babies are fluffy, dry and moving around. she knows babies will need to get out and eat.

she still has to eggs that didnt hatch but she keeps getting back on them does that mean we could be exspecting two more duckies

Duck boy:
That's exciting ...I think she'll give up after a day or two.
Also where are you...would swap eggs next spring forr new blood for my magpie flock. T

im in indiana, also will she keep the babies in the nest at nite or will she move around during the nite

once the babies are out of the nest, they're out for good usually.

now, when one of my mallards hatched out her lone baby, she would take her back into the nest box every day for about a week at the peek of the hottest part of the day for naps, where they'd stay until evening, then they'd come back out for dinner LOL

if the babies can get back into the nest she may do the same with hers.

are the pure magpies?

and!. as custom dictates, make sure you get pics after everyone is running around

After my hen hatched out her clutch I tried to move her and the ducklings to another house inside a smaller pen to keep them separate from the other ducks. I kept them in the new pen for a few days, but when I did let them out she wanted to take her ducklings back to the main duck house so bad, she would stand in front of it and cry because the door was shut. So I relented and put the other two hens in the alternate duck house at night. Momma duck would put the ducklings to bed at dusk in the house and then come out to hang around with the other ducks. If they came out peeping for her she would go back in with them until they settled down, and then come back out. It was so cute, she was a really good mamma.

you don't HAVE to, just like chickens with chicks, it depends on some of the temperments of the other ducks, everyone was fine with Mouses baby, but then when i tried giving Sage back her only surviving baby, everyone wanted to pick on it, so i took it away.
