How many birds are in your current flock?

Pics
I think it was hard for me because I had never experienced anything like that before. I grew up in the big city so all this country life stuff is so new and some of it can be shocking. Thankfully I've adapted quickly and know this is all for the best! I've since processed a chicken *by myself* and felt good about it! Interesting skill to have, haha!

That's really good! I hope to get to the same stage one day. I grow up in a suburban neighborhood. And my partner is for a half an acre but not far from where I grow up. Now we are on 10 acres. Semi rural.

Jace---Spangled Old English Game Bantam hen. Rubbish at dealing with cold weather, and so are all her kids, so I won't be breeding her again. I keep her, though, because she's my spoiled brat. :love

Fyrian, Jace's son. Died last winter because he couldn't take the cold.

Jazzy---not a bantam. This is the mutt pet that I keep because she's sweet. She's inside in the image for SLM treatment.

Georgia, mutt bantam. This bird is the most cold hardy bantam I have ever owned. She only came inside once in all of last winter, and she probably would have been fine without it, but I was paranoid after losing Fyrian and another cockerel. I'm currently trying to get an OEGB cockerel from cold hardy lines to breed with her.

Luna, mixed breed bantam, but mostly OEGB. She's got quite the solid build and is reasonably cold hardy. I might breed her too, for genetic diversity. From a sexlinked line of birds. All females of hers are a light fawn colour, all males are black and white.

Jace again.

Wow! Just wow! They are absolutely beautiful birds! Geezz I hope I end up with eye candy like that!

Thank you. What breeds do you have? Sorry if it's been mentioned already, I haven't read the whole thread.

I did have 8 Hybrid Australorps but im down to 1 now Hazel her name is.
I have 7 chicks, 2 light Sussex, 3 Rhode island reds and 2 Black Australorps.
I did have more Black Australorps but thats a long story.
I made a thread for My flock journey since my every first day. You should have a read if you feel like it. Grab a cup of tea but its long and sometimes sad.

Chicken math--it's real. :) I started with five who were at point of lay. It dropped to three due to an infection and a teenage raccoon. Then the craziness began...

I got give month-old 'pullets' from a local person. Three of the five were cockerels, so that was fun. I managed to find homes for two of them and returned the other to the original owner. So now, back to five--Plymouth barred rock, Easter Egger, Gold-laced Wyandotte, Bielefelder and splash Isbar.

Fast forward a year and now I have a total of 17, in two different flocks. I renovated part of my shed into a new coop, and my nine newbies (now 11 weeks old), live in there. They all free range the back yard during the day then nest in their respective coops. It works.

The new ones are a speckled sussex, a RIR, two silver spitzhaubens, a lavender marans, a welsummer, a barnevelder, a buff orpington and my favorite, a golden campine named Wolfie. :) As far as I can tell, all of these are actually pullets. I don't think I'll buy started birds again--the ones I've raised as chicks are waaay more friendly.

I started off with 2 barnyard mixes 4 years ago when I joined BYC. Since then, Chicken Math kicked in!!! I now have 2 coops and 20 chickens. I have:
* My 2 original barnyard mixes
* 1 brown leghorn
* 1 BC Marans who has been broody 2 times since April and has hatched 1 Cochin x BC Marans and 3 Mille Fleur D’Uccle bantams which are only 2 weeks old
* 1 Blue Splash Marans
* 1 Silkie mix
* 1 California Leghorn
* 1 Lavender Orpington
* 1 Buff Brahma
* 3 Easter Eggers
* 1 GL Wyandotte
* 1 SL Wyandotte
* 1 Swedish flower
* and 1 Ameraucana x Polish cockerel.
I love each and everyone of them. They each have names and are thriving.
I’m Done! I incubate every year in my classroom , but this year I will be giving them all away!!!!
