how many chickens do you have and how big is your coop

I have five hens.

We had to buy five, according to the feed store/state law.

We were only planning on three.

It's not big enough!

Luckily they were raised together and free range during the day so we are okay.

we have:
16 hens
1 rooster
2--3 month old babies
6--2 month old babies
all sharing one 11x16 coop(an old aluminum sided work shed connects to the garage) that has lots of roosting and nesting areas.

the younger babies are in a dog cage for now, until they are old enough to fend off the big girls. we are planning to extend the 10x10 run very soon, to give them more space outdoors. even though I have one girl in her own enclosure because she is partially blind, and the mamma hen and her two babies (the 3 month olds) rarely venture outside, unless the feeder has run out.

I think we need a few more roosts in there, because they all want to crowd on two main ones. also we are going to block off about a 5x5 section for the bantams that are only about 4 weeks old at the moment, and we will need a separate run for them as well. we have a lot of work ahead of us, but we love our girls!!

And we have lots of chirping chickies in a brooder waiting to join the coop soon!

My coop is 4' X 8' X 4' high. It is inside a run that is 12' X 30'. I have 5 adults in there right now with 4 three-day old chicks in the brooder who will be joining them when they are big enough(only the pullets will be kept out of this hatch). My chickens only sleep inside the coop, their nestbox is a large barrel outside the coop, so there is really lots of room for more. I don't plan on maxing out the capacity of this run/coop before building another. I like them to have lots of room.
