I am being gifted a chicken coop, which is much appreciated, I didn’t know when I accepted the offer it also was coming with 7/8 chickens and a rooster. I have already ordered my 3 Plymouth Rock Barred pullets that I get in May. Needless to say, based off the photo do you think this coop will be big enough? I don’t know the exact dimensions, but I’m pretty sure not including the nesting boxes it’s 4x4. Any advice would be appreciated, this is our first adventure with chickens.

Rule of thumb is 4sqf of floor space per bird. Good for 3 to 4 max.

However, if you're in a warmer climate, with a large run, it might be ok. If it's a cold climate, you may have issues if the chickens are forced to stay inside.

Do you have any suggestions then how I could add onto this coop to get some extra sq footage?
