how many days 'til houseguest start to smell? Not so many....

tonight I sort of was like "so... when will your yurt be ready...(hint hint)... and they said the platform would probably be done by Tuesday or Wednesday, (2 or 3 days) and then the yurt in another day or two.. sounds like FRIDAY at the latest... which will probably be before they drive me COMPLETELY insane!!!! I hope....

There are inexpensive "camping potties" that places like Camping World sell. Walmart has them, too. The even sell these pop-up tents that you can put around them for potty-privacy, or for use as an out-door shower.

We have plenty of camping experience. They can (and should) live out there and need nothing from you.

PS We love "camping" in our RV, now! Thirty-two feet of rolling, airconditioned comfort!

You need to get a standard rental form, and modify it to fit your needs--maybe go to a trailer park and ask to see their space rental/lease forms? Seems more appropriate than a house or apartment form, but look at those, too. Anyways, come up with some specific limitations on what they can and cannot do on your property, and the condition to which you expect it to be returned when they leave. You also need to clearly define any rent payments, late fees, deposits and the terms of cancelation.

Some specifics you need to include is exactly which land they are entitled to use exclusively, which land is not theirs for any use; the farm chores expected of them, and the frequency and quality standards for each chore; require sanitary disposal of human waste at an appropriate RV dump site on an at least weekly basis; water or electrical hookups, if you are providing and, and their costs. Specifically mention that the only usage rights are those specifically granted by the contract or by law. Make sure that what you come up with looks like an official, standard form. (I almost hesitate to say this, but that probably means that they are more likely to sign it without reading and lobbying for additional rights that you do not want to give them.)

Politely tell them that they need to be in their yurt, or at least out of your house by Friday evening. Invite a close friend or relative to come visit for a week--it will give you emotional support as well as their physical presence will provide some intimidation to your tenants.

You need to start looking at them as tenants, not guests, and treat them accordingly.

Frankly if they behave like this now, how do you think they will be "helping out" in lieu of rent? Once the yurt is up, you will probably be hard pressed to get the help you need especially in the manner that you would like it done. I second the notion of getting everything hashed out and in a written contract. Be sure to have an escape clause so that you can get rid of them if need be!!

ROFLMAO! Sorry, I shouldn't be laughing but I can't help it. I went to school for a rather,... well,... 'hippiesh' subject. Undergrad was full of 'hippies' and I dated a few. Some of my dates were so memorable, as in so ridiculous as to be unforgettable:
1) butchering chickens (on a date)
2) meeting with a composting toilet company rep
3) drinking milk atright from the cow, STRAIGHT (I didn't, he did. Was squirting it in his mouth)
4) PHISH concerts
5) trying butter oil (which, to me, tastes like dirty cow nipple) and being told that, "When you have my child you will have a cup of that everyday to make sure the baby is healthy. It's great for you. We don't get enough natural fats."

Some of it was neat stuff, but the extremes to which some of the activities were taken, or the timing of them, was odd in the extreme. Not to mention that I do not use drugs in any form and the sheer amount of cannabis was overwhelming.

I am so sorry about the experience you are having. I would set a deadline for yurt completion.

Make sure to include a 30-day cancellation clause, and somthing like "any of tenants possessions remaining on the property more than 30 days after the lease ends are forfeited. Rent will be charged for so long as possessions remain, until such times as they are forfeited." Then you can legally sell or donate or otherwise dispose of anything they leave.
