How Many Eggs Did You Get Last Year?

Hello everyone!

I thought I’d share this with you all, since you are fellow chicken people . Last year I thought it would be fun to keep track of my girls’ egg laying, so on their calendar in the coop (I have a thing for calendars so of course there’s one in the chicken coop!) I kept a tally of how many eggs they laid each day, categorized by color and size (the little one represents a bantam egg).

I’m sure I missed a few eggs here and there, but according to my calculation, my 17 girls (some didn’t start laying until September, and one’s an old lady who is very sporadic) laid 2,759 eggs from January 1st through December 31st. So 2020 wasn’t a complete loss after all ! Anyway, there is no scientific reason for this, it was just for fun and I’ve already got their new calendar and the new tally started for 2021 .

I use a spread sheet, set up to add them for me.
Don't have bird numbers recorded here tho.

Nice organization on calendar and spreadsheets!!! I'm so impressed! My records are scribbled on lined notebook paper taped to the calendar. When my DD moved in with us in Aug, I packed away a bunch of previous papers, so I only have out my sheets since Aug. We got 429 eggs since then. During that time, 6 hens stopped laying for the winter and 7 pullets began......Strangely, my oldest hen Speck, age 5, began laying again in Dec, tho she's never laid an egg in winter before, neither have any of the other hens. Speck has given us an egg every other day since she began. My whole theory on length of day vs egg laying, shot to pieces!

Hey, whatever system works! My old lady, Alice, laid an egg a few days ago (from her perch - found it under her when I went out there after dark ). She‘d been in the nesting box half the day. I keep telling her she can stop laying already. She’ll be 8 years old in March . I think bringing in new, hormonal hens must have an effect (most of my flock is 1.5 years old and Alice kinda picked up laying sporadically when they all started).

Ah...that may be what happened w my old hen! I was baffled!

2071 from 9 hens in 2020 & that was from very broody Wyandottes that I constantly had to break! 230 eggs/chicken, although I am sure the less broody ones laid more!

My quail flock varied between 5 and 15 quail last year and I think I got a minimum of 3 eggs a day, but most days nearly as many eggs as birds. Last year was the first year I didn't buy a single carton of eggs!
