How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Eight hens in various stages of molt. I got zero today.

Zilch. Nada.

Yes they seem to be fat and healthy...no noticable signs of parasites. Egg eater-I don't think so, I go out several times a day and check on them, let them out. When I'm out there I check on them..look in their coop, nest boxes..

I'm trying to keep it a constant light source-turn it on the same time every morning, turn it off the same time at night, let them out at the same times, feed them the same time. When they were laying their eggs were perfect, hard nice shell, they smelled fresh, and yummy. Their yolk was a very pretty yellow and firm so I can't imagine it to be the food....

I truly hope that these new things I'm doing is going to get them going..it will be a week sat when I did the new changes...I know my daughter will be so sad if any of them are sick...where would I take the poo samples, we don't have a vet that does farm animals around here...

Thanks

Any Vet can do a fecal float test for round and or tape worms( they look the same in dogs cats chickens etc), just put 1 small piece of poo from a few different chickens in a small ziplock baggie(i use a popcicle stick to collect the poo) and bring it in to most any vet. Call them first and ask them how much and if they'll do it. There is a lot of forums on worming chickens on this website so read up if they find any in the poo. In Arkansas, I'm sure with the warmer climate, parasites are very common. Sometimes chickens won't show noticable signs of parasites until things are severe.

It's strange that your hens are that young and were laying fine and suddenly stopped. I have read where they are very sensative to light changes, even more so than feed, when it comes to the laying cycle. Start a forum of your own, and ask if any old timers have had a similar experiences?

Also, I think I would do some reasearch and see how long after a stop in the lay cycle does it take for them to start back up again? One week isn't a very long time( well if your waiting on eggs, Yes an eternity lol) sorry not sure what else it could be?
here is a link I read that might help??

Rho-thanks for all the advice. I'll get the poo to the vet if nothing happens by the end of next

weekend. I'm starting to get a little worried, but be my luck and they are defective in some way. My

daughter isn't worried yet but she's only 8 and just loves being outside with them in the evenings. She

swings with them, sings to them, holds them, etc...very cute can't believe she is sooooooooo

attached to her feathered friends. But I do enjoy them too, mostly enjoy all she gets from them,

couldn't teach this stuff in a classroom. I'll keep y'all posted to know what happens.....I've got a job

interview today so when I get back I'll go and check nesting boxes, maybe I will have a nice lil

surprise!?!?!? These chickens are costing me so much money and I'm not getting anything out of

them...I'm afraid we will have to down size if they don't start producing eggs again...I and my

daughter will be heartbroken...well I guess you just never know what you will get when you have farm

animals....? Thanks again Rho..

7/11again.
My husband has put a timer on the light so it comes on at 5am and then the auto door will open at 7am. Hopefully this will help us with our egg numbers!
We are already discussing adding more girls to our flock next spring!
