How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

...my cat knocked over a basket of eggs and they all broke, I literally cried as the dog and I cleaned up the mess LOL)

All thirteen hens in the shed insist on using (fighting over) the same nest box, even though there's four boxes, so occasionally we get a cracked egg from the roughousing. These go in a dish for the cats to share, so when I come in with the basket now, they try to trip me so I'll drop one for them. The old cat sits and stares forlornly at the empty dish every evening.

I got 10/14 yesterday and 11/14 the day before.

Not that I am advertising at all. But, has anyone else used or seen the smartphone app called Eggspense? I downloaded it this weekend to try out. It allows you to enter # of eggs collected each day and any expenses like feed and shavings. It then creates a graph to show egg production trends. Also shows cost per egg, per dozen, total expenses, and total number of eggs collected to date. I was tracking eggs per day on a small calendar on my coop door. I sell eggs on a small scale and keep some for home use. After putting in all of the numbers I found I was losing money each week at the price per dozen.

I can't find it. Is it an iPhone app?

I use a spreadsheet on my iPad that someone on here designed. It's fab.
I have made a few changes in it to show how much I would have paid out if I had bought the eggs that we eat! (and also converted it from dollars to pounds, and pounds to kilos!)

I had two days this week that I got 8 of 8! That was the first time that has happened.

Last two days I have only had 4, and I had 2 softies yesterday and one today. It has gotten HOT (like 100 degrees) could that be the cause?

They have layer feed and free choice oyster shell. I added some oyster shell to their feed today and have been feeding them yogurt and cottage cheese for the last several days.

I got 2 eggs today! Yippee!! So, I figure one of the younger pullets has started laying. So the last 2 should be starting soon since the younger 3 are all the same age.
So that makes it 2 eggs from 4 chickens.

6/6 yesterday. Some egghead refuses to lay in the nest. she either leaves it in the run, on top of a bale of hay or on the floor of the coop. Everyone else lays in one of the 3 nest boxes.
